According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam's shrimp export turnover reached nearly 2.8 billion USD, an increase of 10.5% over the same period last year.

Vietnam's seafood exports have shown positive signs since the first month of 2024. Of which, exports of two key seafood products, shrimp and tra and basa fish, will recover after a sharp decline in 2023.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first four months of 2024, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products nationwide is estimated at 19.06 billion USD, up 23.7% over the same period in 2023; the trade surplus of the whole industry is 4.74 billion USD, up 71.5%. With this result, the agricultural sector is ready to reach new export records.

Vietnam's seafood exports from the end of 2023 have shown signs of recovery and will likely increase again in 2024.

Amid the fervent atmosphere of early December, the Vietnamese aquaculture sector is preparing a momentous event to commemorate the pivotal achievement of surpassing the $10 billion export threshold—a milestone that is especially impressive considering the forecast that the full year's total may reach $11 billion.

The shrimp farming industry in the Mekong Delta has been developing strongly in recent years, becoming an important economic sector, creating jobs, increasing income for millions of coastal people and a significant source of foreign exchange revenue for the country.

According to forecasts, many difficulties will continue to affect the situation of seafood production and export, making recovery slow; Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has adjusted the 2024 seafood export target to reach 9.5 billion USD.
